Mid-Year Review in the Mountains: How We Hit Reset to Serve Customers

30 Jul
2026

July in Wuhan is not gentle. The city simmers at over 40°C, and by mid-summer, everyone — including us — can feel the fatigue creeping in.

So when the midpoint of 2026 arrived, we made a decision that surprised even ourselves: instead of staying in the office to grind through our mid-year numbers, we packed up the whole team and drove ninety minutes into the mountains.

Not to escape. To reset.

Why a mid-year review belongs outside the office

A mid-year review is easy to get wrong. You sit in a meeting room, scroll through spreadsheets, celebrate the wins, flag the problems, and schedule a follow-up for September. Everyone nods. Everyone returns to their inboxes. Six weeks later, nothing has changed.

We've run reviews like that before. We know the pattern.

This year, we did it differently.

Away from the noise — no inboxes, no phone notifications, no production floor to run back to — we gave ourselves something rare: two days of genuine pause. We hiked. We talked. We sat with the first half of 2026 the way you sit with a difficult conversation you've been putting off.

What made it work was not the agenda. It was the state of the people in the room. A tired team produces a tired review. A rested team produces clarity.

And yes — our Chief Happiness Officer came along too.

Zanzan, the company dog who officially holds that title, joined the retreat with zero agenda, zero spreadsheets, and zero interest in our KPI review. He ran ahead of us on the mountain trail, made us laugh, and quietly reminded the whole team of something manufacturing people easily forget:

Rest and joy are not rewards for productivity. They are its foundation.

A team that can laugh with a dog on a mountain trail is the same team that will answer your email with patience at 11 p.m. That is not a small thing — in our experience, it is exactly what great customer service is made of.

What we actually talked about

Yes, we reviewed the numbers. The projects that shipped on time. The ones that didn't. The samples that took one round too many. The quotes that went silent.

But here is what surprised us: once the team was truly relaxed, the conversation kept turning to one thing — our customers.

Not complaints about difficult clients. Real, honest questions:

That is the part of the retreat that changed things.

What seventeen years has taught us about service

In seventeen years of custom sportswear manufacturing, we have learned one thing that no tech pack, no certificate, and no sales pitch can replace:

Service is not a department. It is a state of mind — and it starts with how we treat our own team.

A factory run by exhausted, unappreciated people cannot deliver great customer service, no matter how good the processes are. But a team that feels rested, trusted, and cared for? That care shows up in every email, every sample revision, every deadline we fight to meet.

Our clients work with people, not just machines. They can feel the difference.

Coming back

We returned from the mountains with clearer heads, a sharper focus for the second half of 2026, and a shared promise:

We will serve our customers with the same attention and care we would want for ourselves.

That promise is not a slogan on a wall. It shows up in how we respond to an inquiry, how we manage a sample revision, and how we communicate when a deadline gets tight.

If you are developing a custom sportswear line — or simply not sure whether your current manufacturing partner truly has your back — we would love to talk.

We are rested. We are listening. And we are ready for the second half of 2026.
