A customer we have produced for since 2017 has outgrown the range he started with.
His business grew. Different customers, more volume, and now products he has never made before. The styles he needs today are not the styles he needed a couple of years ago, and they are not a bigger version of what he already had.
So he came to us with new styles, and more quantity.
Which is the interesting part. When a business expands, a buyer has two options: build a fresh relationship with a new supplier, or take the new work to the one who already knows his product, his fit, his colours and his season.
He took the second option. That is what the video below is actually about, and it is worth being honest about why it happened.
Nobody grows a product range with a supplier they have doubts about.
A new style is not a free option. It means a new sample, a new approval, and money committed to something nobody has made before. A buyer only takes that risk with a supplier whose work has already come back right — and keeps coming back right, season after season, when the stakes are higher and nobody is watching closely.
That is also why how we answer a small complaint matters more than the sample that wins the order. Nothing tests a supplier relationship like a batch that is a shade off. Nothing ends one faster than being vague about it.
So we keep the last garment from every run. When a buyer asks whether this batch is the same as the last one, we put the two next to each other and hold them up to the light, instead of asking them to take our word for it.
Given the differences in time zones and languages across countries, our professional sales representatives typically coordinate with clients in advance to schedule online meetings for discussing key decisions. These representatives are not only well-versed in our products but also highly proficient in English.
The new conversation started in the middle of a relationship, not at the beginning of one.
None of that shows up in a quote. None of it shows up in a sample. It is the part of working with a supplier that only shows up after a few years — and it is the part a buyer cannot get anywhere else.
Maybe your first project with us is still ahead of you. In that case, being honest: we cannot show you a ten-year relationship in a first conversation. What we can show you is the sample room, the people in it, and how quickly somebody comes back to you with an answer.
But if you are already working with a supplier and your business has reached the point where you need to add new styles, it is worth writing down the two things you would miss most if that supplier disappeared tomorrow.
For most of our buyers, those two things are not price. They are not even lead time.
They are that the quality holds, and that somebody answers.
If that sounds like the supplier you would like to grow with, send us your logo file, your fabric spec and your order quantity. We will set up a first video call, line up the samples, and walk you through the project in your time zone.
